ADF Gap Year Students Stewart & Matthew Door

I’m Stewart Door.
I’m Matthew Door. That’s B1 and I’m B2.

Why did you want to join the Gap Year?

Well, originally I was looking at, looking to join one of the services. And then, I thought I knew what I wanted to do until they sort of, and then I was undecisive, and then that’s when they offered us a gap year. A year to try to see what we wanted to do and then make a more firm decision.

He chose after I’d already decided I was joining. Ah, I thought I was going to join as a BM Bo’ sun’s Mate to realise that I wasn’t quite sure after finding out more about it. With that they offered the gap year and now I think I might join as a clearance diver or possibly go seamanship officer – yet to decide.

What’s the best thing about the Gap Year so far?

Well, my brother Stewart, he decided that… after he decided he would join he was to come in the division after us, after G256, and with him joining it made it a bit easier but probably the best part of it was seeing how much I could better his results. So, yea there was a bit of competition, that was good fun amongst all the seamanship stuff, which I like. I don’t know about Stewart.

Are you both thinking about a career in the Navy later on?

I’ve decided I will join the Navy; it’s just what I join as is what I need to work out for myself.

I’m thinking the same thing. I’ll probably join, just not sure what I want to join as at the moment.
