Yeah sure, my name’s Flight Lieutenant Jeremy Dyer , I enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force on the… February 2005. I work as a logistics officer with 114 Mobile Control and Reporting Unit at RAAF Base Darwin. And I have been overseas before, I spent six months in Afghanistan until April this year and I love my job.
My father is an ex Army officer, and with that just bred a very keen interest in the Defence Force. I always wanted to do something that I enjoyed, and money and paying conditions was the last thing I wanted to think about when I was going to work day to day, and yeah just the mateship, the travel, the option to do things that you wouldn’t otherwise get to do in the civilian world, and just opportunities to… yeah just explore and do new things and share experiences with people and make a contribution to the defence of the country.
The most challenging thing I would have done would have been serving in Afghanistan, dealing with the hostile environment, living without the comforts of home, and dealing with a very high pressure environment. Yeah that would be it.
It’s extremely important because you’re representing your country, and all eyes are on you whether it’s your fellow colleagues, coalition forces or local nationals, Afghan nationals that we work with on a daily basis, they make a lot of judgements and decisions based on your actions, your behaviour and the way you interact with them. So it’s crucial that you portray yourself in the best way possible.
